A practical way on How to Thank God

What can I give back to God for the blessings he’s poured out on me?

  • I’ll lift high the cup of salvation – a toast to God!
  • I’ll pray in the name of God;
  • I’ll complete what I promised God I’d do, and
  • I’ll do it together with his people. …
  • Oh, God, here I am, your servant, your faithful servant: set me free for your service!
  • I’m ready to offer the thanksgiving sacrifice and pray in the name of God.
  • I’ll complete what I promised God I’d do, and
  • I’ll do it in company with his people,
  • In the place of worship, in God’s house, in Jerusalem, God’s city.[Psalm 116:12-19 Msg]
  • Hallelujah!

God wants us to show gratitude and therefore express a good attitude towards Him;

  • through a deliberate act – like making an offering;
    • I will sacrifice an offering of thanks to you and call on the name of the Lord.[Psalm 116:17]An offer that we can make that is pleasing and acceptable to God is the offering of thanksgiving. This “sacrifice of a thankful offering ” was not a separate offering but part of the peace offering that Israel was commanded to give [Lev 7:11-18].
  • in the presence or awareness of other people
    • Go to Church; join Religious groups and communities; spread the Word and talk (thanks) about your thankfulness.
  • in public
    • Not only in your own privacy; witness to other people – in town, at work, at the social groups.
  • Keep our promises to Him Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High. [Psalm 50:14]
    • Change your life; surrender; adopt and learn the Good life.

Make a Ritual of Thanks to God

God tells us to practice the rhythm of thanksgiving and prayer.

  • Be anxious about nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus[Philippians 4:6-7].
  • Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.?[Psalm 50]

This is the rhythm of thanks and petition:
